Maayboli Melawa Tampa Bay Proudly Conducts Marathi Shala

Marathi Shala (Marathi School) is the initiative started by MMTB to promote the Marathi language among the young generation. This school is open to all youth who are currently in school and membership of MMTB is not required. Non-members of MMTB are required to pay supplies and activities cost. If you are interested in registering your child in the Marathi Shala please see the information below:

Curriculum Overview

The Grade 1 curriculum includes the following learning areas:

Counting numbers from 0 to 50 (in figures)
Learning the complete alphabet
Learning 12 vowels
Using vowel symbols with consonants
Introduction to nouns, pronouns, and verbs
Basic punctuation
Understanding how sentences are formed
Learning about time and how to read a clock
Identifying body parts
Learning family relationships and names
Learning the seven basic colors and identifying different colors

The Grade 3 curriculum includes the following learning areas:

Understanding numerical figures and vocabulary related to measurement
Learning conjunctions in detail
Learning collective words and generalization
Writing and combining two statements or sentences
Learning suffixes used with pronouns
Learning four types of recitations
Understanding gender and respectful plural words
Learning concepts of size
Understanding chronology: seasons and months
Learning directions
Learning about relatives
Learning different forms of water and land-related words
Learning about Maharashtra
Learning stories and parables
Giving personal introductions
Writing 4–5 sentences as guided by the teacher
Showing and describing pictures

The Grade 2 curriculum includes the following learning areas:

Counting numbers from 1 to 100 (in digits)
Understanding basic mathematical language
Learning the complete alphabet
Learning Barakhadi (consonant–vowel combinations)
Understanding even and odd syllables
Using nouns, pronouns, and singular/plural words in sentences
Using commas and basic punctuation marks
Learning how sentences are formed and writing sentences of 5–8 words
Describing objects in pictures using adjectives
Learning about time (savva and sade), days, months, and years
Learning about animals and their body parts
Learning names of close relatives
Learning about different tastes and daily activities
Understanding weather and names of different bodies of water
Learning about Lokmanya Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi, and Ganesh Utsav
Learning about the west coast and main hill ranges of Maharashtra

Understanding the water cycle
Learning different means of transportation
Giving introductions in the third person
Learning about festivals: Makar Sankrant, Holi, and Gokulashtami
Writing a short paragraph of 6–8 sentences
Describing a picture series
Writing short dialogues with 4–6 sentences
Writing a news report based on a picture or an incident text
Practicing communication between 2–3 people
Translating 2 prayers and 2 verses
Paraphrasing 3 poems

The Grade 5 curriculum includes the following learning areas:

Identifying and writing numerals; writing numbers in words
Learning synonyms and antonyms
Using inflectional words with all kinds of suffixes
Forming a word to a group of words
Using all kinds of punctuation marks correctly
Learning about pollution, natural disasters, and safety rules
Writing 8–10 sentences with 5–6 syllables, forming 2–3 paragraphs with correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Writing 5–6 sentences with 4–6 syllables as dialogues
Writing letters: email, invitation, request, and inquiry
Writing 10–15 sentences on a given topic
Translating 2 prayers and 2 verses
Interpreting and translating 3 poems
Learning about democracy, Indian sports, and Indian art
